Official Matt Cassel sucks thread

KC is probably looking at anywhere from 7-9 to 9-7 this year which would put them drafting in a similar spot to this past draft. What I hope happens is RG3 continues to show a great QB is worth trading up for and Pioli does whatever he has to to get one. No I'm not pushing for Barkley. If he is the best go for it if not go for someone else I dont care. This town would go nuts if KC actually went for it in round 1 considering they have gone the longest without drafting a QB in 1. My absolute 1st choice would be to try and get Mallett for a 2 and maybe a 3 the following year. Hopefully KC turns it around this year but either way there is no question what priority 1 will be after the season. #2 will be getting another ILB or another CB.

If there is a QB in the draft that we can either by either falling to us or trading up a few spots to get we will do it. Trading up from 11 to 2 just isn't happening.

Do you think Mallet would be available for anything other than a 1 and do you think it would be worth it? I have liked Mallet from the get go. We could then save the 1 and land a stud CB or ILB. I really think Mallet could be great in this league if he ever gets a shot

New England is prepping Mallett for life after Brady. Highly doubt they listen to offers for him.

Still, I think we need to balls up, show the fans we are serious about putting together a contender and draft a QB ourselves. I like Tyler Wilson from Arkansas the most. Dude will stand in the pocket and make a throw knowing the linebacker is gonna hit him in the chin. To top it off he's got a hell of an arm. Ive heard alot of good things about Bray but havent seen him play.

They have almost every play in every game of Tyler Wilson from last season on YouTube.

I wouldnt be against Wilson but if he is that good and KC is picking 11-18 it will take a big ransom to move up. I would do it but many think its stupid to give up the future 1st rounders. I dont with this team being so young though. I think the youth on this team does allow for a big move like that.

Im not sure where Wilson or Bray will be projected to go during the draft. If we dont think theyre gonna make it to us, we definitely need to make a move to trade up for him. 1st, 3rd, maybe a 4th or 5th. Whatever it takes. Need to use our 2nd rounder for a DB.

Pioli is going to have to make a move. The fans are already sick of Cassel. Have been for awhile now. Every mistake Cassel make is going to be criticized. He is surrounded by talent. We have a beastly run game. We have two tight ends and 4 receivers that can all make plays. He scored 0 points in the 2nd half besides the last minute TD by Draughn. Not good enough.

To defend Cassel after yesterdays game is foolish. Yeah he looked like an NFL QB in the first half, but he looked like a CFL QB in the 2nd. Thats the problem. Inconsistency. The INT throwing across the field was something a rookie would do. Youre told not to do that the first day of practice. The pass to Moeaki that was picked shouldnt have been thrown. The DB was right there with Moeaki. Not completely Cassels fault, but there had to have been a better option. The fumble is just an example of Cassels shitty pocket presence.

I don't know, I watched him some when he was at Arkansas and the guy just didn't impress me. He had several games where he really shit the bed.

The job of a GM is to make his roster as talented as he possibly can. And we arguably have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. We have bookend tackles that are in or beggining the prime of thier career. We have a good interior line also and a promising young guard prospect in Jeff Allen to replace the weakest point on our offense outside of QB. We have nothing but playmakers at WR,TE, and RB. There is not one of our skill players that couldnt help us in the future.
Yes, we desperately need more depth on defense, Im not blind to that fact. But lets look at our starters and some key backups. Our 2ndary STARTERS are all very talented players. Berry could end up being the best safety in the league, Kendrick Lewis was a fourth rounder that is playing outstandingly and other players have called him the "QB of the defense" Route and Flowers are very solid corners and Flowers ma be elite.Then we have possibly the best pass rusher in the NFL in Hali, an all pro LB in DJ, and up and coming pass rusher in Houston, and even Belcher can be a very solid player. Our D-line has 3 first round draft choices for starters and Jackson and Dorsey have been solid block eaters and Poe had a good NFL debut.

Allen Bailey is our only D-lineman that can rush the passer at this point, I would love to see a Shaun Smith signing. I still feel like Jalil Brown can be a very good player in this league. He is always in good position he just has no sense for how to turn his head on the ball and play it in the air, but better technique will come with time in the league.

But, we have absolutely no depth at LB, we desperately need better options for when Berry, Flowers, Hali, Dj, or one of our starters goes down. It shows way too much when they are missing. We DO have the talent, but we will have to keep progressing with depth and build even more talent on this team.

Also, stop it with all the Brady Quinn talk. Like it or not Matt Cassel IS the best QB on this roster.

Thank you... Look I think Cassel is a tough guy and he is very likeable. But bottom line he is just not what you want at QB when you have the potential at all the other positions. He just does not have the skill set. But he is in fact better than Quinn or Stanzi. If Quinn was actually good enough to unseat Cassel... Pioli would have never brought him to KC. Pioli never intended to bring in any REAL competition for Cassel because he is still trying to convince us how brilliant he was by bringing in Cassel to begin with and for sticking with him for this long. Pioli's inflated ego will not allow him to swallow his pride and admit that Cassel was a HUGE mistake. But continuing to stick with him has handicapped this team and for that should cost him his job.

This seems to be a better QB class than usual. We might actually get one this year, honestly at this point it would be career suicide for Pioli to pass on a first round pick this year if one is available baring a Cassel/Quinn/Stanzi explosion one emerging as a great QB this year.

Always looks downfield
Great pocket presence
Good arm strength
Accurate on the run
Not afraid to stand in the pocket and make throws

Sell the farm for him.

It is frustrating that Pioli has not been more aggressive in trying to find an upgrade at QB. That being said, for right now Cassel is our best option for 2012. There are a few names out there that "could" be better than Cassel but nobody would be a clear upgrade. It would be a diservice to the 2012 Chiefs for Pioli to acknowledge that a better QB is needed at this point, as frustrating as this is. I thnk overall Pioli has done a great job with this team but needs to get over the fixation with Cassel. I only hope that there is a plan in place to get an upgrade as close to the start of the 2013 season as possible.

When you give someone a big contract you just have to stick with them for a few years. Extending him to another big contract would be a big problem, but I doubt that's going to happen. Even this offseason for the first time he hinted at getting a new QB. He also didn't shoot down the idea of drafting one, he just said he wasn't trading multiple firsts to get one(which was the right call from where we were drafting)

Yeah all that QB competition talk was just a smoke screen. Pioli never intended to find anyone skilled enough to replace Cassel. Look at who the backup Qb's have been since Cassel arrived. Orton was the only one that was good enough to compete and he was only brought in because Cassel was done for the year, and once the season was over they made no effort to keep him. Palko, Stanzi, Quinn, all has beens and never will be's.

Quinn has the potential, he was a first round pick for a reason. Weis loves Quinn, and I trust his judgement. He has never had a fair shake.

I agree. I think hes matured and I would assume developed on the finer points of the game since coming into the league. I think if he got his shot on this team, he would do very well.

Quinn is an idiot who tries to force stupid ass passes. That has been his downfall since coming into the league. The guy isnt that good. Cassel is the best chance we have right now.

I am up fro drafting a QB next draft though. I dont like Cassel that much. I think Wilson is a great idea but he will probably go top 5 I think. I think that if Bray comes out he would be great. If not him Landry Jones has a great arm but makes poor decisions. Barkley will probably be the number one pick so I doubt he will fall to us. Logan Thomas from VT would be a development guy. He has Cam Newton potential but he just gets shitty QB coaching at at VT. I think that with a year or two of NFL caliber coaching he could be a freakin scary football player for defenses in the NFL.

You will get notes on each game and player I think could be a good fit for the Chiefs, based on the current construction and contract lengths of members of the Chiefs roster. This will be an ever changing update as more games are played.

This post also serves as a great guide for game times and where they are televised. Times are all central time, because this is Chiefs country! Head inside and enjoy.


11:00 AM

Miami Hurricanes @ Kansas State Wildcats (FX)

Look at LBs Arthur Brown and Justin Tuggle for the Wildcats. Each of these players would be a nice fit for the Chiefs style. Tuggle was impressive last week rushing the passer. Kansas State also has a few defensive backs that should get a look in Nigel Malone, Allen Chapman and Ty Zimmerman.

The offensive side of the ball for the Wildcats has one guy I like for the Chiefs, Jr left tackle Cornelius Lucas. He’s a giant with long arms and good feet. He dominated the Missouri State Bears last week, looking forward to seeing him step up against better competition.

The Miami cupboard is a more empty than it has been in years. Right tackle Seantrel Henderson was a top recruit that hasn’t lived up to expectations at The U. Want to see him handle KState’s pass rushing DE Meshak Williams. Cornerback Ladarius Gunter is another prospect I’m looking forward to watching.

NC State @ UCONN (ESPN3)

NC State QB Mike Glennon needs to step his game up in this one. He struggled last week vs Tennessee, but UCONN isn’t the same caliber of opponent. Protecting Glennon will be center Cam Wentz and Left tackle RJ Mattes, the Chiefs may need to add to their depth in both spots next year, depending on what is done with Branden Albert.

The Wolfpack defense is loaded with talent. Defensive end Brian Slay is a Pioli type player. The secondary has a prospect at every position. Look at top cornerback prospect David Amerson to take a step forward after last weeks dreadful performance.

UCONN has one prospect that I’m interested in, tight end Ryan Griffin. He’s a big target that can move.

Auburn @ Mississippi State (ESPN)

Auburn has a few players on each side of the ball that should be on the Chiefs radar. Offensively, look at running back Onterio McCalebb, WR Emory Blake and TE Phillip Lutzenkirchen. My favorite of that bunch is Lutzenkirchen. He’s a tough, do-it-all tight end.

Defensively, Auburn has a front line pass rusher in Corey Lemonier. I know the Chiefs have Hali and Houston, but it’s always good to stock pile the pass rushers. Defensive backs T’Sharvan Bell and Demetruce McNeal are 2 more players that I like on the Tigers.

Mississippi State has a JR QB that interests me. Tyler Russell takes the job full-time this year and it should be a great thing for MSU. He has some help on offense in WR Chad Bumphis and left guard Gabe Jackson.

MSU has some talent on defense too. JUCO transfer Denico Autry is a junior, but he has the skills to be a force in the SEC. Cornerback Johnthan Banks is one of the nations best defensive backs. He has the ability to man up and shut down his side of the field.

12:30 PM

Austin Peay @ Virginia Tech (ESPN3)

This game features 2 positions that the Chiefs should be looking to upgrade next year: QB and LB/pass rush.

VaTech QB Logan Thomas is one of my favorite players in the country. He’s big, has a nice arm and can create with his feet. Thomas struggled with accuracy last week, but look for a big game here. His top target, WR Marcus Davis, is another talented prospect. He is a huge target that can go up and get it and has deep speed to burn. Davis could be a Bowe replacement.

The Hokies are loaded at linebacker and pass rush. James Gayle, JR Collins and Bruce Taylor should all receive looks from the needy Chiefs.

2:30 PM

Missouri State @ Louisville (ESPN3)

I had the opportunity to scout the MO State game live last week and came away impressed with a few players. LB Nate Davis is a tackling machine. QB Ashton Glaser looked great at times and WR Caddarius Dotson was an open field nightmare.

Louisville has some players that aren’t yet eligible for that draft that I really like in QB Teddy Bridgewater and offensive guard Jake Smith. This post is about the guys that are eligible though. Offensively there is center Mario Benavides and running back Dominique Brown. If you can’t tell, I want KC to upgrade the interior depth, which they have zero this year. Running back is also a concern after Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis.

Preston Brown is a linebacker for the Cardinals that I really like. He’s a junior, but somebody to take note of. Adrian Bushell and Hakeem Smith are defensive backs to keep an eye on. I’m not sold on the Chiefs depth in the secondary either.

Florida @ Texas A&M (ESPN)

Jelani Jenkins and Jon Bostic are linebackers for the Gators. Each one could see a spot in the Kansas City defense, Bostic possibly now. Not as a starter, but would be a depth upgrade over what is currently on the roster. Sharrif Floyd could step in as a replacement for either Tyson Jackson or Glenn Dorsey. SS Matt Elam could be another piece in the secondary for the Chiefs.

Gators left tackle Xavier Nixon and running back Mike Gillislee are worth watching as the Chiefs will need upgrades in the depth department next season.

TAMU has some big time talent on each side of the ball. We’ve been talking offensive tackles in this post, and A&M has 2 of the best in Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews. Breaking in a new QB is a bit easier with these 2 talents. Christine Michael, when healthy, is among the countries best backs. Health is a big question mark with him though.

Pass rush is a strength for the Aggies. Sean Porter, and Damontre Moore can bring it. Jonathan Stewart is a talent in the middle. Safety Steven Campbell is another talent in the Aggies secondary.

Rice @ Kansas (Fox Sports MW)

Some may laugh at this game being included, but each of these teams has some NFL talent. Rice has the Youtube sensation Sam McGuffie, who has made the move to WR. TE Luke Wilson is another target that interests me in this game. Defensively, Rice has linebacker Cameron Nwosu back from injury and safety Paul Porras behind him.

Kansas is solid on the left side of the offensive line. Look at left tackle Tanner Hawkinson and left guard Duane Zlatnik. Former QB, now WR Kale Pick has some solid hands. Throwing him the ball is former Notre Dame QB Dayne Crist.

KU has some solid defenders as well. Look for DE Josh Williams, a Nebraska transfer, and Toben Opurum to put some heat on the QB. Speedy, but small linebacker Tunde Bakare is another talent on the Jayhawks roster. The secondary has safety Bradley McDougald.

6:00 PM

Washington @ LSU (ESPN)

I’m wanting to see Washington QB Keith Price do some work against the talented LSU defense. On the Huskies defense, we look at cornerback Desmond Trufant to make a few plays.

LSU is loaded on both sides of the ball. Offensive tackle Chris Faulk was injured and out for the season, which is a huge loss. The offensive line still has 2 prospects in right tackle Alex Hurst and center PJ Lonergan. QB Zach Mettenberger is another Tiger to watch.

Defense is the name of the game in Baton Rouge. Along the front 4, check out the pressure that DE’s Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo get on the QB. Bennie Logan is a monster on the defensive line. Kevin Minter is a big time player in the middle. The secondary has Tharold Simon and Eric Reid making plays.

6:45 PM

Georgia @ Mizzou (ESPN2 and I am scouting this game live from the pressbox)

Watching from the pressbox, I’ll be mainly checking out the skill positions on the outside. Then check out the DVR for the line play when I get home.

Mizzou has talent everywhere on the field. Look at left tackle Elvis Fisher, running back Kendial Lawrence and TJ Moe on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, check out the trash talking DT Sheldon Richardson, who has the skills to be a big time prospect. Kony Ealy and Michael Sam are impressive DEs that can get good pressure on the QB. Linebacker is a strength with Zaviar Gooden and Andrew Wilson making plays. EJ Gaines is a talented corner for the Tigers.

Georgia is solid up front on the offensive line. Look at left tackle Kenarious Gates and right guard Chris Burnette. They will be protecting talented QB Aaron Murray. Murray’s targets include WR Tavarres King and Malcolm Mitchell.

The Dawgs play a 3-4 base defense, so these guys get what the Chiefs are trying to do. The front 3 has a prospect at every spot. Look at Abry Jones, John Jenkins, Cornelius Washington and Kwame Geathers. Those 4 are going to make it tough for Mizzou to get much going. Jarvis Jones is one of the best pass rushers in the country. Cornerback Branden Smith and safety Shawn Williams are talents in the secondary.

9:30 PM

Oklahoma State @ Arizona (PAC12 Network)

Oklahoma State seems to just plug and play. Gundy has it figured out down in Stillwater.

The Cowboys have some talent on offense, but can’t see them having another first round pick. Running back Joseph Randle , WR Tracy Moore and right guard Lane Taylor will be watched closely in this one.

Okie State has a few talents on defense as well. Cornerbacks Justin Gilbert and Brodrick Brown are 2 talented defensive backs. Gilbert is a return specialist as well. Middle linebacker Caleb Lavey was solid last year. Looking forward to seeing his progression this year.

OVERVIEW FOR WEEK 2

As you can tell, I am not comfortable with the Chiefs depth at many positions. Would like to see an upgrade in the starting lineup at inside linebacker and possibly QB if the right player were available. With this info, you can scout with me and tell me your thoughts on these players and any other prospects or positions you may have noticed. Just interested me since I see Chiefbrave mentioned Thomas here.

Good post. I like Thomas allot but he needs to work on his accuracy.

I'll probably look for that guy every week since he is looking at different games each week. not that he is all know all just interested in that type of crap. I am a Noles fan but still dont get to watch much ACC here. Guess I'll try to watch Thomas. If he is a project he fits right up Piolis line of thinking for 1st round.
