Jim Zorn On The 'Evil' Romeo Crennel

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel is "evil", according to quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn.

OK, so he wasn't exactly serious but he did say that in an interview with Josh Looney of the Chiefs official website.

"I've always admired Romeo from afar when he was in Cleveland working hard, and even in New England as the d-coordinator," Zorn said. "Well, he is kind of evil being part of that defensive regime. But very, very good and solid coach. To know him personally and see the details he proceeds with and the key things he introduces even now, this offseason, so we can prepare well and not allow these things to wait until the last second."

Zorn's had kind of a strange offseason. He interviewed for the Chiefs offensive coordinator job, which he obviously didn't get. And then the KC Star's Adam Teicher reported Zorn was considering leaving KC once he didn't get the job. (This was disputed by the Chiefs.) It was also reported back in January that the Chiefs denied him a chance to interview for the Chicago Bears quarterbacks job, which wasn't a promotion so you can't really fault the Chiefs for saying no.

So now Zorn is back in KC working with Matt Cassel and Ricky Stanzi. Kyle Orton isn't under contract so we're not sure yet whether Zorn will be working with him.

On Cassel and Orton, Zorn said...

"No. 1, I liked where Matt Cassel was headed before his injury," Zorn said. "I think it was hard for him because he was fighting to do what we asked him to do. There were things that were changing based on game plans and some fo the things we were trying to do. And then he started to get into a much better position where he was disciplining himself, and then he got injured.

"And then Kyle when he came in just took over and started," Zorn continued. "It kinda created a much better foundation, or some steadiness, just because of his experience. He has a different kind of arm and he doesn't move around. You have to protect him more in the pocket and he doesn't care. He's just going to drop back and get the ball out. He can move and things like that but he really brought a stability to the pocket and he brought a stability with his demeanor. He was never up and down. Strong arm, had some accuracy, very competitive, which you gotta be if you're going to play in this league."

That's about as clear as you can get, Zorn prefers Orton over Cassel.

Sounds to me like a set up for Cassell to continue as the Chiefs starting QB.

How can you feel Cassel was improving? The game he got hurt in he only passed for 90 fucking yards..and he ended up getting hurt late in the game. Im hoping he's for bringing Orton back. Knowing this cheap ass organization, Id assume its Cassel.

He can't come out and just trash talk Cassel. People can't really grasp that concept.

I think he would be very happy with Orton back to compete with Cassel.

He should trash Cassel. The coaches know he's dogshit. The fanbase knows he's dogshit. Orton knows he's dogshit. His ass needs to be shipped out tonight.

I've been trying to get people to realize he is dogshit since he got here, even after his 27/7 campaign against a high school level schedule. He is the worst starting QB in the league. Make that 2nd behind Tebow.

I didn't like his ass in New England. I had hopes that he would improve though. I didn't want to hate the guy without giving him a chance..but my God. Its been 3 fucking seasons and he hasn't shown the slightest bit of improvement. Even with guys like Weis and Zorn. He still holds on to the ball too long..he's still got a noodle arm..he still makes shitty reads..he still has no pocket presence..and he's damn near 30 years old. And the fact our front office still has faith in this piece of shit makes me sick to my stomach.

We agree 100%! I was for supporting the guy, until I just couldn't do it anymore! We had the guy on the roster and let him walk to Dallas.

I dont think Henne would be an upgrade..but it would sure look better than just sitting here on our asses and counting on Cassel. Theyre both shit reguardless.

Relax fellas! I'm to the point where we may as well role with Stanzi as the backup and see what the kid has.

Stanzi's a bum. Take it from this semi-Iowa fan.

And Tannehill can be a stud, but not right away.

I dont know anything about Tannehill but he seems like a big risk to take when you have so many other good to great players to choose from this year.

I'm actually with you there. we arent going to win this year no matter what we do at QB so let Cassel play and maybe he gets injured so we see what Stanzi can bring. I would take decastro, richardson, or kuechly over any QB that will be there at 11.

I am an Iowa fan and Stanzi could be that guy who does the right thing and manages a team with great pieces around him.

I've seen Stanzi make mistakes and bad decisions when it really mattered. But hey those are things he can learn and do better I guess.
