Matt Cassel is on the trade block. NFL teams work with the Jersey makers(obviously), and talks in those Jersey circles are that Palmer and Cassel are the two big NFL QB's who are most likely to be traded...

My mom probably doesn't even know who Matt Cassel is. But again, I must pull that knife out of my back and whither away in embarrassment (sarcasm)

Its one of those, I heard it from a guy who heard it from his friend who works with NFL Jerseys who work with NFL equipment managers who hear chatter around the stadium type deals.

I hope it is true Rust. I think Cassel has a lot of people fooled by putting up good numbers against terrible competition. I just doubt he's fooled any GM's enough for us to get a whole lot for him. I just dont know what direction we'd go in if we did trade him. Not a lot of QB's I like in this draft. Mallet has skills but is dumber than a box of rocks so I worry about a J. George prob there. I like Gabbert, but he'll be gone early. Maybe a trade for Kolb, but you might not be better off than you are now there.

Even if he is on the block, I have a hard time seeing a team offering what Pioli will want. Sad to say, but I think we are stuck with him for awhile longer.

Yes we are. Especially if somebody bites on Pillys asking price for Kolb. They are now wanting a 1st plus. That would make Cassel almost impossible to trade.

What if we're trying to get Fitzgerald from Arizona? This rumor better not come with news that Croyle signed an extension.

I think I could live with Croyles big arm throwing it to Fitz, Bowe, McCluster, and Moeaki.

I think Croyle COULD be a fine QB, but injury history is too big a risk.

I like the lines you are thinking on, and I think its actually fair based on talent. But based on numbers I'd say you could do Cassel and a 2 for Fitz. Especially if Philly gets what they are asking for for their backup QB.

no way we trade Cassel to have Croyle start! If we are gonna trade Cassel it needs to be for another draft pick so we can move up and draft a QB. Croyle is NOT the answer...i wouldn't mind guys like Ponder, or even Mallett if he slips..but not way to Croyle

There's not a chance in hell that we are going into the season with Croyle as our starting QB. I wouldn't mind drafting Mallet....if he slips to the 5th round. There's also no chance that we move up to draft a QB. No one is even worth our pick at #21 this year.

I agree fatthucker. No QB worth where we pick. Not sure where Kaepernick falls. If he is there in 3 I bet they consider it. Mallet has a ton of talent and a 5th would be nice, but I dont see him falling that far. I wouldnt draft him in 1st 3 though cuz the guy is an idiot.

I heard that. Not that he's the same type of QB, but sounds a little like old Jeff George. A lot of talent and no brains.

The only one I like a lot is Gabbert. I would take Kaepernick in 3 though if he falls that far.

I don't believe it...we are a playoff team no way we go into the season with Croyle as the starter or a rookie..Cassel is worth more than a 2nd rounder to us..

we were a playoff team based on schedule alone. had we had next years schedule this past year we win 4-6 games at most. we COULD be a playoff team next year, but not without sigificant upgrades. A loaded team would struggle with our schedule next year.

ya but we don't have to be the best team..we just have to be the best in the division...SD and Oakland played almost all the same teams we did and couldn't win 10 games..we lost a b.s OT game to Oakland and Croyle playing SD was an auto loss and we folded vs the Texans we could have been 13-3.. Based on our division we are a playoff team, exp with Oakland losing Nnamdi and maybe even Miller

we only play 6 in division. we were 2-4 in a bad division. Oakland physically dominated us. We had the most cupcake schedule in NFL history. With that schedule you are right we should have been 13-3, but the fact that we werent should tell you we arent quite there yet. My point is if we dont make any FA moves and go with the status quo next year we will be killied with our schedule.
