Adam Zimmer, an assistant Kansas City Chiefs coach, was cited Sunday night for suspected driving while intoxicated after crashing his vehicle on Ward Parkway, Kansas City police said today.
The single-vehicle accident was reported at about 9 p.m. at the intersection of Ward Parkway and Huntington Road. Police said Zimmer was the only occupant in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.
No other details were immediately available.
According to the team’s website, Zimmer is a defensive assistant and an assistant linebackers coach. Zimmer is his third season with the team. He is the son of Mike Zimmer, the defensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
Head coach Romeo Crennel said today that the Chiefs are aware of the situation.
“That is being investigated and we don’t have all the facts about that,” Crennel said. “We’ll gather the facts as well as the NFL and we’ll see where that leads us.
“We don’t condone DUIs. That’s not the right thing to do. Everybody knows that educating people about the hazards of driving under the influence is really what . . . needs to get done. You do that to the best of your ability and then people have to make their choices.” Crennel said nothing has yet been determined about whether Zimmer would coach this week and on Sunday.
