Read this morning we have an 86% chance of having the first overall pick for the first time in franchise history. Odds are Geno is the pick.

It's pretty common first round including #1 to not start week one...

If Geno can pickup the mental part of the game quickly, he'll be just fine if you ask me. Reid is gonna ease him into the situation. You'd have to be crazy to throw everything at a rookie QB like Geno and expect him to immediately be great. Take it slow, let him get experience, boost his confidence and he'll be fine.

Geno. Geno. Geno.

Even if Geno isn't Reids guy, there aren't any elite guys this year. Reid can make much less talented QB's look great. Worst case you trot Geno out there for a year, then trade him for a few first round picks or something of that nature and draft your guy. But Geno has the talent to be Reids guy.

Hes a little raw though, which is why I'd expect us to also sign a veteran to start the season. And likely be able to trade that veteran for at least a second rounder.
So you say we should use the 1st pick in the draft to draft a guy who you yourself say is raw and therefore not ready to be an NFL starting QB. To me that is a waste of a good draft pick... the best pick overall at that. A 1st rd pick should be used on a player who can contribute right away... not a raw prospect only drafted because he was the bestQB available in a historically weak QB draft. That is the definition of over reaching for need and no where near BPA. I say dreft Star and sign FA Canty.... especially with Dorsey leaving and Jackson due a fortune.

Well theres a few reasons. Theres no elite prospects. Geno has more upside than anyone else we could draft at the top. He fills our biggest need. As Sly said many teams don't have their rookie start week one. Reid did it with McNabb which is a nice indicator to go by. Giants signed Warner so Eli didn't have to start right away. Palmer sat out his entire rookie year. Those are just a few of several examples. Reid is going to ease his rookie into the role either way. If he wants him to start week one, he will just do something similar to what Harbaugh did with Smith his first year as HC there. Geno is more than capable of looking good in that situation if Reid is like you and thinks Geno has to play week one.

But LOL @ your reasoning. Its pretty common for QB oriented HC's to sign a QB AND draft one. Since you know, they are smart with QB's... they know its best to make sure they are ready. But I understand your struggles on this situation.

And its OK buddy, you don't have to be afraid of first round QB's anymore. The bad man can't hurt you anymore. Reid knows what hes doing with this position.

Hey the way I see it if Dorsey and Reid decide that Geno is worth the 1st overall then I have no problem with the pick... I trust the guys with years of experience and success to make the right decision. I'm just trying to prepare you for the fact that it may not be the choice that they make and if thats the case I'm not going to act like I know more than the guys who have a proven track record and bash whatever decision they do in fact make. Unlike you Rust I do not pretend to be an NFL GM. Apparently though , you were held over from the Pioli regime because of you true expert opinion and your check must be in the mail.

Geno is Reids McNabb! Just turn in the card with the pick right now! It's either going to be Geno at 1 or take Jokel/Starr and trade back into the 1st to get Wilson. Either way we have to have one of those 2 guys. I would prefer it to be Geno, b/c I'm just not sold on Wilson. If we go route 2, what happens when somebody overdrafts Wilson and you lose out on both of them. We can't afford that possibility! Again, just turn in the card with Geno's name on it and be done with this matter!

At this point, I feel like Geno has got to be the pick. Mainly because I dont see any way you can fully justify picking a LT at number one when we already have one. Or a DE when we have picked 2 top 5 3-4 DE's in the last 5 years.

Brandon Albert who is widely known as a run blocking LT was actually top FIVE in the NFL last season as a PASS BLOCKER! He gave up one sack and only 8 QB pressures all season. If thats not elite then its pretty damn close.

No shit. I really wish Geno would have went to the senior bowl. He would have blown everyone there out of the water and really set himself apart from the rest of the group. I think he's really gonna set himself apart at the combine though when he interviews with teams. If he can show he's a knowledgeable guy who knows what he's talking about, he'll impress alot of GMs including Dorsey to the point where he'd be confident taking him at #1.

Today John Dorsey was on NFL AM..they asked him about the possibility of Cassel starting the season for the Chiefs.

Dorsey simply said "He's shown the skill set to play in the NFL". Then a long awkward silence.

That says it all.

Call me crazy, but if we have no takers for trading down, the Chiefs should take Chance Warmack..OG..

I know what you are going to say...We need a QB and Smith is the best option, but I have seen many mocks and news articles that state the Chiefs may go OL with the 1st pick...Dorsey doesn't like this draft class' QBs in the 1st round, let alone 1st overall..

Many have OT Joekel going to us 1st overall, but IMO, Warmack would provide better value simply because we have Albert (who, I hope, resigns with thew Chiefs) Lilja is garbage...

I also have read Warmack is the best overall player in the draft..He would make our interior run game all that much better..

Well I'd rather draft Warmack than Joke I'd guess. But I'd also rather draft a DL over an OL. Still pullin for Geno. They say he shows flashes of a top ten QB, I trust Reid to bring that out more.

Anyone look at draftteks latest mock? would love every pick but seems likely 2nd and 3rd rounders wouldnt be there.
Here is the latest one.
1. Joekel
2. Tyler Wilson
3. T. Austin
4. Blidi Wreh-Wilson (CB- Connecticut)
5. M. Lattimore
6. David Bass (OLB-Missouri Western)
7. Daimion Stafford (FS- Nebraska)

This doesnt even include the extra 3rd we will get. I know nobody wants Joekel but me but if you can also have Wilson I think most would like it. Dont have to worry about an Olineman with a bad back. I wont pretend to know about the guys in 4, 6, and 7 but like the other picks for sure. Give up the extra 3rd for Foles and let the 2 young guys fight it out.

Wilson should go in the first. Austin could go late 1st early 2nd. Lot of people seem to think Lattimore could go as high as round 3. No to Joeckel.

Outside the first pick that would be a great draft. But most of those players will be gone by those picks.

I feel Joekel would be a wasted pick..Not because he isn't talented enough to be drafted 1st, but because we already have a top 10 OT in Albert...

We need interior OL..

they were talking on radio that the Albert camp is wanting over 10 mil per. not worth it on a guy that misses time with back issues. back issues dont go away. I think they will wind up giving it to him though and I get why but it is a bigger risk than you think with back issues.

I actually go to the same school as David Bass.. The mock 6th round pick. I have watched this guy take over many games in the last couple years. This guy is a freak athlete. He is around 265-270 lbs. and runs a 4.6 40. With the right coaching I think this guy could be a serious rotation player and make some impact.
