Waters Knows Chiefs Releasing Lilja In 2004 Was A Mistake

Count Brian Waters as one of the folks that feels releasing Ryan Lilja back in 2004 was a mistake. Except, Waters knew at the time it wasn't a good idea.

"Ryan is probably one of the biggest mistakes we've made over the years because I remember how good of a camp he had. I remember the day they decided to try to put him on the practice squad.

"Me, Casey [Wiegmann] and Will [Shields] were thinking, 'Man this is a mistake.' I remember the young man they kept -- not to throw him under the bus -- but it was between him and Kelvin Sampson."

Yea.. I agree with Waters.. This could of helped ALOT when Shields retired!

Herm prolly would have released him anyways

Yeah Lilja, like Weigmann, is too small for a Herm blocking scheme.
