Hopes to return to the Chiefs

We've been waiting all offseason to determine whether free-agent-to-be Casey Wiegmann would decide to retire. Several weeks ago he told 810 WHB that he wasn't sure what he would do yet but planned on keeping his options open.

As it turns out, he hopes to play in 2011. His agent, Joe Linta, told Bill Williamson of ESPN.com that Wiegmann plans on returning to the NFL in 2011 if a contract can be worked out with the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the lockout, I've argued that it's in the Chiefs best interest to bring Wiegmann back. They drafted C Rodney Hudson in the 2011 NFL draft but with no offseason workouts with the coaching staff the Chiefs don't know exactly what they have in Hudson. If a deal can be worked out with the Chiefs, Wiegmann can enter the season as the starter and mentor Hudson as he begins his NFL career. This, in my mind, is the best-case scenario.

The reasons not to bring Wiegmann back include his age -- he'll turn 38 on Wednesday -- and the presence of Hudson. The Chiefs could choose to throw Hudson right into the fire if they don't re-sign Wiegmann.

It appears the NFL lockout is ending very soon -- perhaps this week -- and then free agency will open so we could know within a week or so.

Hudson could use someone like Casey his rookie year. When Casey wears down towards the end of the year again we can use Hudson more then. Same goes with Asamoah when Lilja wears down again. I think Waters has at least another good year in him.

Lilja will play longer for us than Waters will.. I bet Waters retires either next season or the season after.

Lilja should be here for awhile. But I agree, he can't be counted on for a full season.. and especially a playoff run. Hes just one of those guys that loses mass as the season goes on then packs it back on during the offseason. Weigmann is the same way, but not nearly as bad.

Yea.. But for the mean time we have Asamoah and Harris as backups. Im not too worried about it really.
